Work those angles

With daisy-chaining:
- You can only connect devices at the same location (using either WiFi, Bluetooth or cables).
- You’ll notice how each device in the chain takes a split second to catch up with the one before it.
- Even if you don’t care about the latency, this method is often unstable. A device may drop off for no apparent reason. Forcing you to fix your setup and start recording all over again.
With the hub-and-spoke model:
- If that server goes down, all your devices lose their connection to each other. In other words, single point of failure.
- You’ll notice latency because your devices don’t talk to each other. They talk to the hub. And since the hub is the go-between, there’s a slight delay.
- There’s a higher chance of network bottlenecks, which can lead to performance issues. Especially if the app makers don’t upgrade their server infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Hey, Ben and Stan here! We’re so glad you asked this question. In a nutshell, we were picky about two things: (1) network topology and (2) data format and bandwidth.
- Network topology.
FluidPrompter creates a peer-to-peer mesh network with the other prompters joined to a session (every prompter connects to every other prompter). This is faster than relaying state information through a centralized web server, as it reduces the distance any given packet of information has to travel. - Data format and bandwidth.
The way FluidPrompter shares data between devices is very low bandwidth compared to competitors who mirror the entire screen as an image. Basically, the prompters transmit position information about where you are in the script, and each prompter updates its position accordingly. This takes up less network bandwidth than full screen sharing and keeps connection latency super low. This method also allows you to sync screens that are not the same size or aspect ratio, which is important because depending on their size and distance from the presenter, you’ll want each prompter to display differently than the other(s).
