“Why do most teleprompter apps suck?”
That's the question Ben asked himself after testing a lot of prompter apps for his YouTube channel BensTechLab.
There’s always a catch
Every teleprompter app Ben tried made him feel like he was settling. He quickly grew tired of the common limitations:
- Having to pick a “magic number” for your speed
- Not getting true hands-free control while filming hands-on review videos
- Having to take my iPad off the prompter for each mid-shoot edit because I couldn’t sync multiple screens
- Being limited to a “proprietary” remote with cheap buttons that made a loud clicky noise
- Not being able to customize appearance on different screens
These silly constraints are just unacceptable.
Meet the founder
It all started in a basement with a YouTube review channel
Hey, I'm Ben! Back in 2020, I launched my own YouTube channel BensTechLab. I published review videos covering hardware: motherboards, monitors, power supplies, you name it. In one of the videos my son and I even built a Retropie Nintendo Emulator with a Raspberry Pi 4. That was fun.
As our channel grew, I began obsessing over creating the perfect studio. I found myself analyzing the best studio equipment, video lighting, cameras and lenses, mics, rack mounts and you guessed it teleprompters.
And honestly, when it came to teleprompter apps, everything free or affordable on the market was disappointing.
Most apps I tried were very limiting and even annoying. So what did I do? As a career software architect and developer, I created a new one. I really wanted to build an effective product that was easy to use. I also wanted anyone to be able to use it, regardless of their experience or comfort level being on camera (or on stage).
After receiving so much good feedback from our users, I decided I wanted to grow FluidPrompter. But I needed support. That's when my good friend Stan became my partner in crime!
Meet the co-founder
He doesn't skip a line of code, and he doesn't skip leg day
Hi, I'm Stan. I started my career as an RF hardware engineer, building mobile radios and later writing firmware on 8-bit microchips in Assembly. As technology progressed, I transitioned to developing DSP algorithms for VoIP applications.
Eventually, I moved up the software stack and became a software architect, similar to Ben, developing cloud-based SaaS solutions. In fact, Ben and I started out as colleagues at work and became instant friends. So, joining Ben to build FluidPrompter was an easy decision.
I was blown away by how natural it felt using an analog pedal to advance the prompter (seriously, you should try it). When a tool or app does its job seamlessly, ergonomically, and beautifully without the user needing a manual or hours of learning, that is true art.
Soon after I joined FluidPrompter, I got busy developing the desktop and mobile apps, which we're hoping to release by mid-2026. Outside of software development, I love to play tennis and stay active with my family and friends. I also try to put in a workout between 8 and 10 p.m. that golden window when no one needs anything from me.
Both Ben and I are passionate about helping every presenter be their best self on camera or on stage. If you ever have any questions, we're here to help.
